Bad Outdoorsmen documents a multi-year, multimedia installation project that blends performance, travelogue, and critique. Moving through the woods of north Florida in handmade camouflage suits, the artists retrace the paths of John Audubon, William Bartram, and John Muir while constructing an application for the television show Alone. The resulting video, sculpture, and photography interrogate inherited myths of American environmentalism and challenge assumptions about who is permitted visibility in the outdoors.
The cover features laser-cut leaves derived from the artists' handmade suits, sewn into the spine. With every touch, leaves shift, lift, and settle—revealing and obscuring typography beneath like foliage blown across a forest floor. This kinetic, tactile experience transforms the book into a physical exploration that mirrors the project's interrogation of wilderness, authorship, and belonging.
