Philosophy

We design to build experiences that define, strengthen and clarify the scholarly arguments, narratives and concepts of curatorial and artistic work.

We construct experiential worlds of the work that are an expression of art—one that creates a space for looking, seeing and feeling and shifts our perception of time.

Our process is deeply human, revolving around conversation, collaboration and research into the curatorial and artistic practices, narratives, concepts and material and typographic modalities that create the systems for visual, haptic and emotive languages.

Our work creates legacy and extends exhibitions, identities, archives, and ideas, into lasting public form.

We focus on ongoing partnerships that advance public reach and visibility, contributing to the success of the cultural institutions, publishers, curators and artists that we collaborate with.

Studio

Founded by creative director Caleb Cain Marcus notable projects include work with Julien Creuzet, Franklin Williams, City Museum of New York, Staten Island Museum and Brown University. Carrie Mae Weems: Varying Shades of Brown was hailed as “a sculptural object—proving that books still push boundaries in a screen-dominated era” by Cent Magazine. 

Caleb’s work is in the collections of the Getty and Metropolitan Museum of Art, and he holds an MFA from Columbia University.

Our studio’s innovation, typographic and creative excellence has been recognized by the Art Directors Club, AIGA 50 books | 50 covers, Most Beautiful German Books, Society of Typographic Arts, Red Dot Design Award, Communication Arts and Tokyo Type Directors Club.

Lectures and Talks

We seek out meaningful conversation and dialogue with the public on creativity, ideas and design.

Talks include, Books as Cultural Catalysts  (International Center of Photography), Creative Curiosity and the Non Linear Path (School of Visual Arts), the Art of the Photobook (AIPAD) and Concepts Through Design and Typography (La Luz).
