My Mother's Tender Script was based on found address books, folded scraps of paper, photographs, and handwritten notes left behind by the artist's mother, a Yemeni woman married at eleven, widowed at fifteen, and never learnd to read or write beacuse she wasn't permitted to attend school. 

We hid remnants of Sharabi's artistic process and scribbles from her mother inside Japanese folded pages for the reader to find; a rose, a photograph a residue of pigment that connects the reader to the artist’s mother's way of interpreting the world without language.
